I think I have convinced all of my neighbors to replace their lawn tractors with Sub-CUTS. We all have bewteen 2-6.5 acres each, and they have seen all the wonderful things my Kubota can do. I can plow my 200ft driveway in under 15 minutes. I can level about a 1/4 acre rough land with 2' deep ruts in a matter of a couple hours using my rear blade. I can mow my lawn in 1/2 the time it takes to do theirs. I can drive though thick underbrush and pull down standing dead-wood. I can move big chunks of rotten wood and tree braches to a burn pile. And for my next feat... I will install and till a vegetable garden and overseed my lawn! Some of my neighbors first thought "why would he spend $9K on a lawn mower", now they say "oh... that's why. I need one of those too!"

My neighbors skipped the "why?" and went directly to the drooling. Great fun seeing the wish in their eyes. ....

My neighbor recently did a lot of work with landscaping timbers and building new terraces next to his house.
He knew that I had a CUT and asked me several times about it. I think that he was fishing for me to help him. I probably would have, but he opposed an upgrade that I wanted to do to my house/property with the zoning commission and they wouldn't allow it with a disagreable neighbor. Perhaps it never occurred to him that his opposition might have ticked me off.
It was really hard on me to have to watch him move all those landscape timbers, that gravel and loose dirt with a wheel barrow and shovel. :-} It took him weeks to accomplish his work in the hot NM sun. I estimate that the same job could have been done with the CUT in two weekends.
Since then, I have moved to a new place where I could build with fewer restrictions and without permission from the neighbors. I was back there over the weekend and the gravel road to the houses has not been maintained and there are lots of places where drainage problems have cut ruts. I guess that the unneighborly "neighbors" did not realize what they were getting for free until I left. ....

AC, you know what they say is true, "...be nice to the folks on the way up, because you may meet them on the way down!" Sounds like your not-so-neighborly neighbor just had his first lesson in CUT diplomacy. I had a similar situation with a neighbor who didn't like my equipment being stored at my house, even though almost all of it is under roof. She called the town to complain, and then we had a micro-burst hit the neighborhood and she lost seven large poplars. Gee, turns out my schedule book was filled, and by gosh, so were the other area landscapers' (after breakfast conversation at the local diner). She eventually got cleaned up, but not until she was humiliated by her high toned friends who thought her usually manicured yard was "just a Gawd awful mess." ....

A Couple of my neighors seem to get upset with my JD 955 sitting out side. The funny thing was none of them were the people who lived next to, across the street or behind me. It was everybody else. I sold the JD 955 and bought another neighors B7500 because the same people didn't like his tractor sitting outside. I live in a golf course community so everybody is a pain in the A%% city boy. My neighor on the right used to farm all this land. So i placed all my 3 pt stuff on the property line and he place his in the same spot. So everyone thinks it his stuff. They can't do a thing about it. Now to get even I raised everybody's price who complained by $10 per lawn mowing. I like it when they file a complait, they have to state their name and why in my neighorhood. I haven't had another complaint since.
AbbyWood you know the same thing here. When we had the hurricane come through i sure seemed to be booked up for a week when one of the complaiting customers called up. Along with 8 other buddy's companies. I got $400 out of him and it took 2 hours to complete. I made sure he was not home when i did the work. Done the same thing with snow and mowing when people complain about price. I give then 8 phone numbers and my buddy's all come in at least 10% higher on the price. We kind of have a deal of where we work, i get this neigherhood, you get that one. ....

Green,
You should be careful when saying things like this. You wouldn’t want any of your problematic neighbors accusing you of collusion, which is illegal. ....

yeah, I can relate,my neighbor lost his adverse posession law suit on my driveway/bridge.He had the village plow me in at the entrance. They were chuckling as they saw me watching !!! My neigbor must have not been home when I brought my 60 inch erskine front mounted snow blower home one day. The look of the snow plow drivers and the neighbor was like the mastercard commercial PRICELESS as they watched me drive my jd790 out of my garage and down the drive way blowing snow 30 feet !!!!!
I really cant think of it without having tears in my eyes.
it HURTS BAD. ....

You make the most profit per lawn the closer you are to your shop. Since you not making money driving to the shop and back. Plus driving from each job. You spending gas, mileage on the truck, employees riding in truck, insurance, etc. Each of us do most of the houses with in 1 mile of our shops. Most don't even want to leave this area just to cut one lawn, so thats why there is a 10% price increase. I could run my mowers from the first house to last house i do with out driving a total of a mile round trip. I used to not even take my trailer to some jobs. I got 4 other outside companies out side of my friends who cut grass in my neighorhood. I still come in less then them. ....
